When it comes to health activities, the task of Red Cross of Serbia, is in the first place preventive work, advice giving and education. In this context, the following activities are taking place:
- World TB day, under the slogan »TB OR NOT TB«: this was the first year that this date was marked in Serbia, but the interest was significant, so it is necessary that the project that was started with IFRC help – printing the leaflet and brochure for TB prevention - is completed. On the 24th of March, only the poster was presented. Feedback from the field tells us that this was a well planned and much needed activity. - World health day, under the slogan »Healthy and safe environment for our children, our legacy for the future«, however the poster advertising this activity was finished only after the date and this is something to be taken into consideration for the future activities. Feedback from the field confirms this. A lot of the branches have created their own posters for this date. - The goal of health prevention project »Healthy lifestyles« is to unify all health prevention projects that have existed so far and to round up the education of volunteers who have chosen this area of knowledge. Part of this project is the survey among volunteers to establish the exact number of volunteers in all areas of work. The aim of this survey is to reach the exact number of existing volunteers in local branches throughout the republic. - Red Cross of Serbia has published a brochure for RC volunteers who want to work on improving health and promotion of healthy life styles. This brochure is entitled »Let us make health itself healthier«. Publishing of this brochure was financed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the number of copies is 1000. - With IFRC financial support, Red Cross of Serbia has organised two educational seminars for RC volunteers, the first one in Belgrade, December 2003, the second one in Zrenjanin, April 2003. In total, 60 branches with three representatives each were covered. - The action called »Working weekend« is a regular activity each spring and it is mostly done in branches with rural population, but is also done in cities as a special activity in schools called »The most beautiful schoolyard«, or »The prettiest garden« etc. On these occasions, along with the RC volunteers, the visits to rural households are paid by doctors or pharmacists or respected members of the local community who had left their birthplace, a small celebration takes place, medications are distributed, examinations are being done... - Anti – AIDS campaign raises special interest among RC volunteers every year because this is a large scale activity and is different in features every time. This activity is a joined effort with JAZAS, Student polyclinic, with financial support from IFRC. - Anti-Tuberculosis week (14-21/09) has been marked this year under the slogan “Healthy lifestyles against the disease” - Planned: publishing a leaflet and a brochure on respiratory apparatus diseases, donor needed.
